Cassandra an Angel Story
Hello friends, Cassandra always stopped by her grandmother’s house after school. Rain or shine, she would walk the brick path up to the white painted porch and retrieve the key from under the potted topiary. She could have had a key made at any time. But this simple ritual always felt just right to her. She was the trusted “knower” of the hiding place for the key to her grandmother’s house.
On this particularly rainy Thursday afternoon, she hurried her pace knowing a warm cup of tea would be waiting for her. As Cassandra reached her grandmother’s blue cottage style house with the white painted wraparound porch, the rain suddenly stopped and a bright rainbow appeared right above her grandmother’s house. “How wonderful” she thought, as she hurried up the path to retrieve the key.
A rainbow is believed to be a sign from the Angels. Rainbows are a symbols of hope and encouragement that remind us that there is light after the storm.
Cassandra lifted the potted topiary, but there was no key. She looked around the pot and, on the porch, but still no key was found. She tried the door but it was locked. A peek inside the front window confirmed her grandmother wasn’t home. She felt a lump in her throat as she became concerned about her grandmother’s whereabouts and the missing key.
Jillian, her grandmother’s neighbor, known for wearing outfits that were quite risqué, called out to her. “Cassie your grandmother isn’t home. I think you should give your Mother a call. Would you like to use my phone?” Cassandra replied by waving her cell phone in the air, and muttering my name is Cassandra not Cassie”. She pushed the speed dial button and as soon as she heard the tremble in her mother’s voice she knew, yes she knew, her grandmother had passed on. She sat down on the step and cried as she waited for her mother to pick her up.
At her grandmother’s funeral her grandmother’s extraordinary life was shared and the bond between Cassandra and her grandmother was celebrated. On the way to the burial plot at the Jefferson Aaron cemetery it started to rain.
While mourners gathered under a few umbrellas saying their final farewells, Cassandra stood in the rain holding a single white rose picked form her grandmother’s garden. As she laid the rose on the casket the rain stopped. A ray of sunlight and a bright and colorful rainbow appeared right above her grandmother’s resting place. “How wonderful” she thought.
