Whats Your Phobia
Whats Your Phobia
Hello and welcome to “What’s Your Phobia”. Did I sound like a game show announcer? I used my best Rich Field voice ( the price is right game show announcer). That’s right my sweet bloggy friends today I am broadcasting to the world that I have a few phobias. I think we all do…I hope you are nodding your heads yes right now or this post is going to make me look like a complete loon. I’m sharing a pleasant photo here just in case 🙂
I have a Arkoudaphobia-fear of Bears,
Ophidiophobia- fear of Snakes,
Acrophobia- a fear of high places,
Claustrophobia- a fear of confined spaces (I can still ride in an elevator, enter a closet etc. I just can’t stay there for very long)
and last but far from least,
Musophobia- fear of rodents ( mice and rats in particular). These phobias do not dictate my life but they do hinder me at times.
Why am I starting a rousing game of Whats Your Phobia…We have a mouse! For those of you who follow me on facebook you may remember we had Micky and Minnie running a muck just a few months ago. We had hoped word got out amongst the rodent community that they weren’t welcome ( once you enter you will not return). It seems one of them didn’t heed the warning, or he just boldly goes where most rodents fear to tread.

He, mouse with no name, made his way into our pantry and set himself up for a nice gourmet meal and left some of his remains behind. We are still trying to determine how they keep getting in.Two days of disinfecting, wiping, etc. have me in a spin. Hubby put door sweeps on the garage and basement doors just in case that is how they are getting in and I have put the majority of our pantry into hermetically sealed containers.
I tried to determine through some research if my fears are all irrational and how many fears ( phobias) does an average person have, only to find no definitive answers. I did discover that a lot of people ask the question ” do I have to many phobias” or “what is the average number of phobias”.
Okay my friends, Game On ! Feel free to list your phobia/phobias in the comment section. 🙂
See you at the Thursday Favorite Things Hop!
I have fear of the ocean, bugs and snakes
I have a fear of flying and I have a fear of elevators. I haven’t flown in years so that takes care of that one but elevators are another thing. I avoid them. I’ll take the stairs providing I don’t have to go up 12 floors. But the moment I step into an elevator I can feel my pulse get faster. If the elevator doors don’t open immediately upon stopping at the floor, I go into a huge panic!!!! Irrational I know ….. :-/
As a kid I was afraid of cows (not that I ever came close to one). I have no fear of heights, however, when I’m standing at the edge of something high, I can’t look up (you read that right). It gives me the hebejebes 🙂
Doctors, dentists, or anyone that needs to be in my face/personal space, which is too close for my comfort. Odd thing is, if I’m comfortable, I’m a hugger, I’ve just never met a doctor, or dentist that made me comfortable.
I dont like small places, ( I try to avoid elevators…) — and I dont like spiders, snakes or mice at all….
Hi Katie, I have been sitting here trying to think of this about which I phobic. Can’t really think of any, being that the medical symptom of a phobia is extreme anxiety.
The closest I would come to extreme anxiety was when hubby would hold our children to allow them to look over at something from a heights. I noticed someone else had that concern. I have gone to sleep in the dental chair…no anxiety there. I don’t like looking down from heights, at first. Once acclimated, I am OK. I have looked down from the Eiffel Tour, London Eye, Empire State Bldg, World Trade Towers. I don’t like mice, rats and snakes but I do jump when Bob gooses me in the zoo’s reptile house.
A fun read indeed!

Not sure if there is a name for it, but I have fear of gravel roads…total phobia…that I want to jump out of the car if I feel the slightest fishtail of the car!
I have a terrible fear of flying. I didn’t fly for over 30 years! I missed out on several family things and then 3 years ago a friend who has a condo in Naples, Fl. asked 3 of us ladies if we wanted to go down with her. I finally decided that I was tired of missing out on fun. So, I went to my Dr. got some drugs:):) and flew. The past 3 years. Last year it was a little tough on the ride home. But I do it now. Snakes scare me AND my hubby:):) Mice don’t bother me but I don’t like them in the house!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
we recently had some mice and it was traumtic….eeeeewww…and nasty. Oh boy, I am scared of spiders, bees, and deathly afraid of heights…I feel your pain babe.
I push through having to deal with all those situations that make me uncomfortable, but if I had my druthers I would stear clear of heights, germs and public bathrooms.
What a great topic for a blog, well done Katie! When I saw the title for todays words of wisdom it set me thinking and I came to the conclusion that I have no phobias. Not wishing to sound conceited I re-read your blog and all the comments, a fascinating read that is for sure. I have been frightened, for example when my sons were at war, when a guy ran a stop sign and nearly hit me, when I wake from a bad dream.
I get a thrill from stepping off of high platforms (knowing I am safely connected to something). I am fascinated by all creatures but will stop the pests from coming into the house.
In conclusion I think I have a phobia of admitting to having a phobia!!
Have a great day.
I definitely have Ophidiophobia. I want nothing to do with snakes!
Hello there Katie,
You have company!:) I have all of those phobias that you have. I keep fighting the height phobia though. It is not at its worst stage yet!:) Take care and have a good day.

At the risk of sounding like the nuttiest one here, I have emetophobia. The good news is that it’s gotten better after having kids.
I’m with you all on your phobias, Katie, although I didn’t know there were names for some of them. I hate bugs with a passion, and if a mouse dared to make tracks into our home, I would have to move… just sayin! Wait, that’s what happened and why we’re living here now! (just joking…)
Although I know bugs and rodents are part of God’s creation, I still do not like them…
Fish and spiders. *twitch*
I don’t have a fear of mice, I just really, really, really don’t like them! I DO have a deadly fear of bats. The screaming at the top of your lungs, hiding under blankets kind of fear. I also have an irrational fear of dentists stemming from an unfortunate incident with one when I was a child. Not that bats and dentists have any correlation :).
I hate mice. I grew up in a very rural area and you’d frequently have mice in your bed at night. I absolutely hate mice.

My only phobia is a TERRIFYING fear of heights. I have been known to scream in terror if someone I love is too close to the edge of a dangerous place. Such as after a dream where my baby grandson wiggled out of his moms arms and fell. Then seeing it play out in real life. Son thought I’d lost it but they obliged and moved away from that edge. 😉 We went to the Eiffel Tower with our son and family. I prayed for months that I’d be able to go to the top. We waited in line for an hour, then took the elevator (glass fronted which was a not so nice surprise :/) to the first “floor” where my son said we’d have to get out, walk to the edge and climb stairs to the second elevator which would take us to the top. He guided me with my eyes closed to the second elevator. lol When we got to the top, they all went out on the deck. Not me. I stayed right in front of the elevator door. Somehow I was pushed into the elevator without any family and immediately closed my eyes. When I decided I might be looking pretty stupid, I opened them to find I was right next to the glass looking out and had about a 1 ft space all around me open. (guess nobody wanted to get too near crazy American) Amazingly, because we were going DOWN I guess, it didn’t bother me and I was finally able to enjoy the view. Oh and standing at the edge of a high place and looking up is way worse for me than looking down. :/ Good luck on finding that mouse. I use JUST ONE BITE and it works every time. It’s only available online at Amazon now though. (for our area anyway. and I know places like Ca never have sold it. Works too well, I guess)
I do not like standing on the edge of something high and looking down. Weird, huh? I can’t find a named phobia that really matches. I am not afraid of heights. As an example, my office used to be on the top floor of the building, and one if my walks was windows. I loved being able to look out and see all of the beauty, but I didn’t like standing right at the window and looking straight down. Maybe it is a fear of falling from a high place.
Rodents. Ugh! One of those creatures that make you wonder their purpose.
Mice don’t bother me at all, but I do have nine cats – they would not dare come into my house! LOL Wanna borrow a couple? LOL If you plant mint around your house, they hate the smell, it will help to deter them. video.about.com/apartments/Humane-Mouse-Removal
My phobias are ticks, spiders (did you know that ticks are spiders?), snakes and being left alone. We were looking at some property one time and I looked down and there was a line of ticks crawling up my skirt! I found a couple on me too, I had nightmares for months!
Seriously ironic, because weekends ago, my husband came into our bedroom at 11 pm on a Saturday night just as I was finishing up some design work to tell me that we too had a mouse. I am so with you and freaked just a bit. I can handle a lot, but a mouse just gives me the creepy crawlies!! Off to ACE Hardware we went the next day after just like you I cleaned and disinfected everything! It took about 3 nights before we finally got him (we used humane traps) and Kevin set him free in sump down the road from us. Seriously though I watched every step for those few days and know just how you are feeling, Katie!!
