Welcome Autumn DIY Pompom Pumpkins

Hello friends, I ‘m so happy you are here. I had a little fun with the hot glue gun this weekend. It’s Autumn, it’s time, it’s time for pumpkins! So why not some DIY Pompom Pumpkins, right? So grab your glue gun and lets rock this baby!

• large pumpkin pick, I used size 4 inches in diameter and small pumpkin pick is 2.5 inches in diameter. I purchased pumpkin picks and pompoms from Hobby Lobby ( local craft shop)
• 1-2 green pipe cleaners
• pencil
• tweezer
• wire cutters, or old scissors ( never use good scissors for cutting anything other than fabric)
• foam base or something to use as a stand while you work ( styrofoam, shoebox, egg carton, etc.)
• hot glue gun and glue sticks
• premade pompoms .5 inches for the small ones and 1 inch for the big ones
• patience

Using your wire cutters ( or scissors) snip off excess plastic or other bits on the pumpkin that don’t belong. Press the pick stem into the foam base. Or, shoebox, egg carton, etc. so it will stand up while you’re working.

Apply a line of hot glue, and using your tweezers, start adding pompoms. I tried putting them on vertically to start and it doesn’t look as nice as just adding them as you go along horizontally.

Continue adding pompoms until you reach the bottom of the pumpkin. Full disclosure- I ran out of little pompoms and had to use large ones for the final row.

After your pumpkin is covered in pompoms remove the pick dowel.

Flip over and give a little pat all the way around, to assure all the pompoms are securely glued. Flip over and let’s add a green stem. Using green pipe cleaners. Wrap the pipe cleaner around a pencil and snip off, at your preferred length. Apply a dab of glue and place by the pumpkin stem. Note-if the pumpkin you are using is soft enough you can push the pipe cleaner into it.

Time for your Ta Daa moment!

Let’s make another. This time I used black pompoms. Warning- there were a lot of glue webs to remove and the black picked up every little bit of lint too. I think a burnt orange or maybe a light brown pompom would have been a better color choice.
