I Am In and Izzy the Blog Dog
Dear friends, as promised I am keeping you updated on my “year of sick”. Thank you always for your amazing support and prayers. Fortunately I have an amazing patient advocate/doctor. She stepped in and I’m very happy to share that I was accepted into a clinical trial! Unfortunately I can’t tell you much about it. But, the goal is to cure and prevent me from any clostridioides difficile future infections.
I will spare you all of the gory details. Just a re-cap, kidney infections, kidney stones, uti’s multiple rounds of antibiotics, more infections, kidney surgery, more antibiotics, covid, more infections, colitis, c-diff infections (x3), there are a few more but I think that’s enough. Yes, that my friends is my “year of sick”.
I don’t want to go without mentioning, our insurance doesn’t cover clinical trials, and the cost of this process is 19,000 USD ( yes almost enough to buy a car). Fortunately we qualified for some financial assistance. Thank you Lord.
So far the process is, as Izzy the blog dog would say, “ruff” (smile). But as you all know attitude is everything and I am not defined by any of my illnesses.
Since I mentioned our sweet boy Izzy, I’d like to share a little “tail” with you. Our groomer broke up with us! Izzy had been going to this groomer for a couple of years. Then one day a couple of months ago, two days before his grooming appointment, I received a text message, She no longer wanted to groom disabled dogs.
If you don’t know about our sweet boy, Izzy the blog dog. He is a shapso dog breed, he will be 13 years old in March, he is blind, has insulin dependent diabetes and arthritis. But he gets lots of love and care. Can you imagine going to sleep one night happy as can be and waking up blind? The way he gets around and maneuvers stairs, etc. is quite amazing.
After so many calls and searches I was unable to find a groomer who is able to care for a disabled dog. So hubby and I have been doing our best to trim him and the vet does his nails ( not cheap). A couple of weeks ago a new grooming/dog wellness center popped up! Yes, they care for disabled pets! The groomer is called “Well Groomed Pets”
You can see photos and read a few stories about Izzy HERE. That’s him on my side bar. Here are a few of him before and after and enjoying our unseasonable October weather. We sure do love our sweetie.
Wishing you a day filled with happy! xo
I’m so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing so many health issues this year. I’m glad you found a groomer for your super cute Izzy. Sending you prayers and well wishes.
thank you so much Pam. Hugs!
I am so angry on behalf of your sweet baby! I had a dog with epilepsy, which we learned about when she had her first seizure a week after we adopted her. I am a big advocate for dogs with challenges and I am so glad you found much better people to keep your little man handsome and happy. Of course it goes without saying that you remain in my prayers. My best to you!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment it felt like a hug.
I will be praying for you and I love Izzy. He is so cute.
thank you so much!
I am so sorry you went through all that, I will be praying for a better 2025 for you.
Thank you Holly!
Hi, Katherine! You and Izzy are managing so well, thank you for the updates, I will keep you both in my prayers, hugs!
You are such a thoughtful friend, thank you Irene. xo
Katherine, I’m glad you were accepted into this trial! God is good. 🙂 And Izzy sure looks good after a fresh haircut!! Glad you found a new groomer who was willing to help out. Our Yoda went to a special groomer who treated formerly abused dogs and he bit her like he bit all of us, but eventually really enjoyed getting groomed by her and she was wonderful with him! After 10 years, Yoda became the good dog we always thought he could be and he stopped biting as often, then not at all. We had 7 – 8 years with him as a happy dog who felt safe enough to like cuddles, being pet while eating, and who learned that some dogs are nice dogs, and the same for most people.
Hope your new trial begins soon and that this takes care of your illness! Happy fall and lots of love and hugs,
Barb 🙂
Hi Barb, thank you so much for sharing with me. I’m happy to know Yoda was well loved by you all. My heart breaks for those animals who are victims. You and your family showed your love in a much needed way and that is a blessing. Hugs!
Caring for animals is a righteous act, providing a level of respect and care for them, which can be interpreted as a form of love. “The righteous care for the needs of their animals.” Proverbs 12:10
Won’t groom a disabled dog? What does that have to do with trimming his hair? Glad you found a place for Izzy.
Will continue to pray for you – may the clinical trial be the blessing you need.
I know it’s ridiculous. I’m happy we found them too. Thank you my friend for your continued prayers. Hugs!
